More about J. Nowak

Mr. Nowak began his career In the early 80's, studying glass at the Pratt School of Fine Arts in Seattle and later at the Pilcuck Glass School, providing a foundation to establish a studio of his own. Isolated in the Southern Oregon coast wilderness for over a decade, James developed a unique style, heavily influenced by the raw grandeur of the maritime Pacific Northwest. Currently, Nowak is based in Seattle, He draws on a core of glass workers to rival any in the world. This proximity to the abundant knowledge and skilled artisans provides the necessary fuel to propel his work in new directions. Mr. Nowak has worked with several talented Northwest artists like Dale Chihuly, Flora Benjamin Moore, Richard Royal, Dante Marioni, Mark Eckstrand and others. Dale Chihuly provided James with the tremendous opportunity of working on one of his winter glass blowing teams held at Pilchuck. A coordinated glass team is poetry in motion. Like a well choreographed dance, each person has their part. Mr. Nowak is the leader and with his team's assistance, executes the piece. Every piece and all the design on it is personally hand formed by him. With his signature comes the vision and takes with it a part of himself.
